If you are not offended, you should be. Prejudice is wrong, no matter its form. Pre-judging. Journalists have a special role in our society. They don’t get to cut corners, or report misinformation as if it’s true. And our popular culture needs to be accountable, too.
An initiative of business, faith, civic, corrections, legal, academic and other leaders rising together to challenge the factually unsupportable and morally unjust apartheidization, shaming, stigmatization and dehumanization of justice involved citizens; especially those injustices which are prescribed, sanctioned or tolerated by law; or – whether maliciously or merely unconsciously – inflamed and spread by uniformed bias or ineptitude in news and popular media.
Irrational and nonproductive prejudice against justice involved folks is bad fiscal policy, bad moral policy, bad civics policy, and unsupported by reality. No one, the AADI not excepted, wants a criminal to be empowered to prey. The pernicious and misinformed evil we are exposing here is not that. Businesses, faith leaders, secular civic leaders, experts and professionals in corrections, legal experts, and academics know the data are clear. This is wrong on the facts and wrong on its effects. How will we change this? The truth is a mighty sword.
Your AADI promotes the truth and fact based solutions through education and advocacy in four key areas.
Holding reporters to facts and context.
Challenging unfactual tropes, stereotypes and lies about returning citizens.
Fighting discrimination in the law.
Fighting discrimination in job and housing opportunities.
